Sweater Gamefowl Weight Chart: How Much Should They Weigh?
One of the first signs of a healthy Sweater gamefowl is its weight. Too light means sick or poor genetics. Too heavy means slow.
So how much should a Sweater gamefowl weigh?
Ideal Sweater Gamefowl Weight Chart[2026]
Stage | Age | Male Weight | Female Weight
Chick | 0-8 weeks | 0.5 – 1.2 lbs | 0.4 – 1.0 lbs
Young Stag / Pullet | 3-5 months | 3.5 – 4.5 lbs | 2.5 – 3.5 lbs
Stag | 6-10 months | 5.0 – 6.0 lbs | 3.5 – 4.5 lbs
Adult Cock / Hen | 12+ months | 5.5 – 6.5 lbs | 4.0 – 5.0 lbs
Brood Cock (Breeder) | 2+ years | 6.0 – 7.0 lbs | –
Most buyers look for a stag around 5.5 – 6.0 lbs at 6 months. That’s the sweet spot for Sweaters.

Why Weight Matters:
1. For Breeding: A hen under 3.5 lbs will lay small eggs and weak chicks. A cock over 7 lbs is too heavy and will be slow, producing heavy chicks.
2. For Health: If your 6-month stag is only 4 lbs, check for worms, coccidiosis, or poor feed. A healthy Sweater should gain about 0.5 lbs per month from 2 to 6 months.
3. Bloodline Difference:
- Pure Sweater (Yellow Leg) : Usually 5.5 – 6 lbs, lean and tall
- Sweater x Hatch cross: Heavier, 6 – 6.8 lbs
- Sweater x Kelso: Lighter, 5 – 5.8 lbs
What to Feed to Reach Ideal Weight:
- 0-8 weeks: 20-22% chick starter
- 2-6 months: 18% grower + cracked corn
- 6+ months: 16% maintenance + greens + vitamins
Don’t feed only corn – it makes them fat but not muscular. That’s why many birds look big but weigh light.
Common Question: Why is my Sweater underweight?
3 reasons:
- Worms – deworm every 3 months
- Too many birds in one pen – stress
- Low protein feed
